Preparing for Design Experience 4

Overview

Before Design Experience 4: Imagining the Student Experience, your team will engage in a focused set of activities to strengthen your Bold School Concept. You will socialize and seek input on your Learning Experience with community members, then use the feedback to finalize the Learning Experience and continue clarifying your vision. You will also revisit your School Readiness Assessment and reflect on the conditions needed to support innovation and implementation. These activities ensure you will arrive ready to expand your focus from a single Learning Experience to a cohesive, student-centered experience across time.

Putting It Into Practice

1

Synthesize and organize data:

If not yet completed, synthesize the data you’ve collected from your community in your Design Journey Notebook.

2

Reflect and refine:

As a team, review the synthesized feedback. Identify which insights should directly shape revisions to your Learning Experience or Bold School Concept.
Ask:

  • What feedback aligns with our Bold School Concept and Design Principles?
  • What changes will make the design stronger and more connected to our community?
  • What did this feedback reveal about how we’re communicating our vision, or the “why” behind our design? How might we build greater clarity and conviction so future engagement leads to deeper, more informed input?

Document your design decisions and rationale in your Design Journey Notebook, and refine your Learning Experience accordingly. As you make revisions to the Learning Experience, be sure to:

  • Strengthen the driving question, clarify products and audiences, and revise assessments as needed.
  • Ensure the experience visibly advances Design Principles, especially Meaningful, Engaged Learning and Youth Voice & Choice.
3

Update Bold School Concept artifacts:

  • Edit the Design Principle Executive Summary to reflect new learning.
  • Refresh the Learner Outcome Alignment chart so competencies and performances mirror the revised LX.
4

Confirm readiness for Design Experience 4:

  • Send your district lead and facilitation partner a link to your updated artifacts.
  • Note any areas where you’d like targeted feedback or support.
5

Optional "can do" activities:

  • Apply learning from the Design Principles of Meaningful, Engaged Learning and Youth Voice & Choice to strengthen additional elements of your Bold School Concept.
