Welcoming School Teams

Overview

As Phase 3 begins, the facilitation partner will help school teams feel welcomed, energized, and equipped to begin the next stretch of the Design Journey. This step is about launching the phase with clarity and excitement—sending a warm welcome message, sharing essential materials, and outlining what’s ahead. The facilitator will coordinate with the district transformation team to make this moment feel meaningful, and connect individually with each school-based lead to confirm logistics, build alignment, and ensure each team is ready to engage in the work.

Putting It Into Practice

1

Coordinate with the district team:

Explore ways to make the welcome feel special—whether it’s balloons, a small gift, or a personal note from the district and facilitation team.

2

Send a welcome message to school teams:

Include a warm, joyful introduction to Phase 3, a reminder of the team’s prior work, and an outline of what’s ahead. Link to the Design Experience Scope & Sequence and Design Journey Notebook.

3

Connect with each school-based lead:

Align on upcoming dates, confirm that School Step 1 is underway, and answer any early questions about the work ahead.

4

Ensure teams know what to expect:

Highlight what the first Design Experience will focus on, what they need to bring (e.g. EOAA posters), and how they’ll use the Design Journey Notebook.
