Overview

Following Design Experience 1, your school design team will complete several important tasks. This is the time to begin to engage your community, refine your Case for Change, and conduct one or more Inspiration visits. You’ll need a practical plan for community engagement, with clear timelines and well-defined roles and responsibilities.

Putting It Into Practice

Clarify tasks & timeline:

  • Clarify tasks and timeline: Review the checklist in your Design Journey Notebook to see the essential tasks that need to be completed following Design Experience 1 in preparation for Design Experience 2. Assign clear roles and deadlines to ensure your team is ready for the next design experience.
    • Engage the community (look inward): Choose one to three additional activities from the Community Engagement Toolkit. Holistic engagement is important—it should include sharing insights from the EOAA and SRA, conducting community research, and gathering feedback on the Case for Change. These actions can be combined into integrated activities as appropriate.
    • Complete an inspiration visit: Plan and complete an inspiration visit, afterwards capturing your team’s insights and reflections.
    • Prepare for Design Experience 2: Come back together as a team to analyze community data, share insights, and revise the Case for Change accordingly.

Align calendars:

  • Align these deadlines with existing team calendars to identify optimal timing for community engagement and inspiration visits and ensure all steps are completed before Design Experience 2.
  • Set regular check-ins to monitor progress and adjust your plan as needed.
